The Veterans of Foreign Wars Albert E Johnson Post 1223  is proud to celebrate 75 years of Service.

Post 1223 was originally organized as the Leo McBride Post of Elk River, MN on August 29, 1924. It was officially disbanded on December 14, 1931.

On April 24, 1932, Post 1223 was reorganized as the Albert E. Johnson Post of Moorhead. This name was chosen to honor the first native born Moorhead man who lost his life in combat in WWI. He was killed in action on November 3, 1918 at the crossing of the Escoult River at Heurne, Belgium. He had been on active duty little over four months when he was killed. He was 26 years of age at the time of his death.

Post 1223 was disbanded on November 22, 1934. It was reorganized again, as the Albert E. Johnson Post 1223 in Dilworth, MN on December 2, 1934 and officially transferred back to Moorhead in 1946. The location then was at 9th St and 1st Ave N, Moorhead, MN. We then moved to 2201 1st Ave N, Moorhead, MN and were there since 1975.  We have now relocated to Dilworth, MN at 1505 West Center Avenue (US Highway 10) as of January 1, 2009.
